Women's Caucus Sessions at the NAEA Convention

The Women's Caucus events at the NAEA National Convention, March 17-20, 2011, Seattle, WA will relate to the overall conference theme of "Creativity, Imagination, and Innovation." Check back here in February 2011 to download the program PDF file to bring it with you to the 2011 NAEA Convention of the NAEA Women's Caucus Schedule of Events at the 2011 NAEA National Convention.

2011 NAEA WC Conference Program Jury: Sheri Klein was elected by a quorum of WC members at the June 9, 2010 skype meeting for the 2010-2012 term. To assist in the conference proposal reviews, Sheri appointed Read Diket & Elizabeth Delacruz, who agreed and were confirmed by the Executive Board, June 10, 2010.

2011 NAEA WC Conference Proposal Submission Process: To submit conference proposals for presenting at NAEA 2011 in Seattle, go to http://www.naea-reston.org/news/national-convention. In the proposal submission process, select "Women's Caucus" on the menu so that your proposal is reviewed by the WC Conference Program committee. In 2011, there will be less sessions due to space limits in the conference site. Therefore, we encourage proposals that include several people presenting together. Further, to have your proposal selected as a WC session, consider the criteria listed below and the NAEA 2011 conference theme of creativity.

CREATE ART FOR THE 2011 WC EXHIBITION: Thanks to the exhibition coordination of Carrie Nordlund, the WC will continue the 2010 initiative of the Women's Caucus juried art exhibition for publication in an annual color printed exhibition catalog of selected artworks juried by a renowned artist. Several WC members noted the catalog's value in their tenure and promotion process. WC will continue the online process for submission of artworks, and for the juror to review the submissions for inclusion in the 2011 WC exhibition. We are looking into the possibility of a gallery venue for the WC exhibition in Seattle. The selected artworks were also shown at an NAEA session with artists speaking about their work, and as a looped presentation during the WC breakfast. All artwork submissions are published on the WC website, which will build an archive of art by WC members. Selected works were published in the catalog, which is provided to WC members along with the print-based President's Annual Report.

New Format for NAEA Conventions Instituted in 2009: Poster session

This year the NAEA Convention Proposal Form includes the option to present research in a poster format. The advantage of this format is that your work will be available for viewing for three days, including designated time when all poster presenters will be available for the discussion of their work. NAEA encourages the submission of a wide range of research methods, including Applied Research by practitioners.

NAEA WC Convention Review Process & Evaluation Criteria

REVIEW COMMITTEE:
The NAEA provides the set of proposals to be reviewed by the WC to the WC President who sends the document to the review committee. The review committee consists of a members' elected WC proposal reader, another WC member reader of the elected proposal reader's choice, the elected president-elect, and the elected President of the WC. Each rates proposals individually. No evaluator rates her or his own proposal. The President-elect and President average the scores, and the President provides the averaged score per proposal to the NAEA.

NAEA PROCESS: The document provided by NAEA of all the proposals provides instructions to complete the score for each of the three criteria indicated below. The criteria scores must be values of 1 through 5 and total not more than 15.

The number of presentation slots available to the WC varies by conference venue. Those that receive a score of 15 are typically accepted by the NAEA. If there are more presentation slots those with a score of 14 are included. Depending on conference venue size, those with scores of 13 or less may not be accepted.

CRITERIA:

1. Clarity of Purpose (The title and catalogue descriptions convey the purpose and focus as indicated in the full 150-word description and do not suggest too many directions, too large a topic, or too much to be included in the designated presentation time allotment.)

2. Suitability/Relevance to the WC mission

3. Quality (The title and catalogue descriptions in alignment with the full 150-word description suggests why the presentation is relevant in relation to the WC mission, and presents a theory of practice, or practice of theory informed inquiry or issue.)

History of Proposal Submissions:

2009-2010: In 2009, WC reviewers received 22 proposals, which included the 4 annual meetings of the Board, members, awards, and breakfast. The NAEA accepted 19 WC proposals for NAEA 2010 in Baltimore, in which 9 were rated at 15, 7 rated at 14, and 6 rated at 13 or below.

  • Deadline MARCH 1, 2010: Call for artwork for the 2010 NAEA Women's Caucus Exhibition: Visualizing Social Justice.

Social justice begins with a sense of your own self worth, a keen awareness of the importance of relationships, and extends to self-efficacy in the larger society.

Social justice concerns the injustices and burdens of women, relationships out of kilter, and lack of effect/affect in the larger society.

    Who creates social justice?

Who benefits from social justice, and who makes justice happen?

DO YOU HOLD SOCIAL JUSTICE PERSPECTIVES?

ARE VALUES OF SOCIAL JUSTICE REFLECTED IN YOUR ARTWORK?

DO YOU CREATE ART ABOUT SOCIAL JUSTICE?

The NAEA Women's Caucus is continuing its rich tradition of exhibiting member's works of art at the 2010 NAEA National Convention, Baltimore, Maryland. Artists are called to submit work relevant to the conference theme of social justice. Artists who will have work selected through a juried process will be invited to speak about their art at the conference and also have their work included in a print exhibition catalogue disseminated at the 2010 NAEA Convention's WC sessions. All submissions with artist statements will be exhibited in the WC online gallery archives. Linked is a pdf of how to submit artwork for the 2010 NAEA WC exhibition.
